Intro to Acting:
the Fundamentals
This class focuses on the fundamentals of acting not principles or techniques of acting. The fundamentals of acting include: stage directions, terminology, how to score a script, how to create a monologue or rehearsal book, and acting games. Monologue work begins in Acting Technique 1: Building the Basics. You do not need to take this class in order to take Acting 1.
Acting Technique
2.1 and 2.2:
Adding to the Basics
Students will work on the monologues from Acting 1 for the first two weeks while preparing a new monologue for the class. Principles and techniques covered in 2.1 are:
the Inner Monologue, Subtext, and Relationship & Status
In 2.2 are: The Magic if, Substitution & Endowment, The Moment Before, Moment-to-Moment

You must take both sections to move on to Acting Technique 3. Also, 2.1 and 2.2 cannot be taken simultaneously.​​

Sense Memory
Hone your acting skills further with this advanced acting class focusing on using the senses to create physical and emotional responses. Students will increase their focus, imagination, and harness the ability to add texture and depth to their acting to create believable and honest emotional responses. Also helps in creating invisible objects realistically when miming.
You must have completed Acting 1 and 2 to register for this class.
Voice and Speech
2.1 and 2.2:
Dialects
Students will take the foundation of I.P.A. and learn dialects through vowel, consonant substitutions, and melody. This is an aural and oral class. Students will listen with their ears and repeat back with their mouths.

Must have taken Voice and Speech 1.2. This can be part of the Acting 2 bundle.

Actors' Lab:
Monologue and Scene Work
This class is strictly for the actor or actors who want to work on a monologue or scene outside of rehearsal. This is also open to all students who want to reinforce the principles and techniques taught in our beginning and intermediate classes. ​​​​
Acting Technique
1.1 and 1.2:
Building the Basics
This is the next step after Intro to Acting. Students will learn to apply the basic principles and techniques to monologues. At the end Acting Technique 1.2, students will perform their pieces.
​
Acting Technique 1.1 covers:
Intention, Obstacle, & Tactic, Beats, Pauses, & Ellipses, and Listening & Reacting while working on a monologue.
Acting Technique 1.2 covers Stakes, Given Circumstances, Emotional Tones & Levels.
You must take both sections to move on to Acting Technique 2. Also, 1.1 and 1.2 cannot be taken simultaneously.​​
Voice for the Actor 1.2
Using the building blocks of voice from VftA I, students will now use text and continue to strengthen their vocal skills using the exercises they learned in the previous class.
This can be part of the Acting 2 bundle.

Acting Technique 3:
Intro to Scene Study
This advanced class focuses on justifying the emotion, voice, and actions of your character as well as introduces the elements of scene work and how to find movement and blocking using text and character. Students will use a pre-existing monologue in their repertoire to work on while exploring action. Scenes will be chosen by the instructor.​
Voice for the Actor
Vocal Lab:
Using the building blocks of voice from VftA 1.1 and 1.2, students will now use text and continue to strengthen their vocal skills using the exercises they learned in the previous classes.
This can be part of the Acting 2 bundle.
Audition Technique
From first contact to the final call back, learn the proper and professional way to audition and make a great first and lasting impression. A must for any actor. This class focuses on stage auditions and commercial auditions. This is a lecture based class. Students must have a prepared monologue or in the process of learning one for this class.​

Script Analysis
Become a better script detective with our Script Analysis class. Students will gain a deeper understanding of story structure by identifying character traits including archetypes and stereotypes, arcs, subtext, and theme. The class will conclude with students performing an audition using sides provided and the skills learned throughout the class.

Acting 2 Bundle
The Acting 2 includes three classes at a reduced price when registering for all three at once. This bundle includes includes Acting 2, Speech and Dialects, and Character Development at a reduced cost when registering for all three class at the same time.

Acting classes in the bundle must be taken on the day the bundle is offered. Classes cannot be switched out for the individual class offered on a different day.

Advanced Acting Technique 1: Connecting to Character and Text
This class gives the actor the opportunity to hone their craft and explore text and choices through script analysis and exercises.

Voice for
the Actor
1.1 and 1.2
Acquire the skills to produce sound properly for stage and screen. Learn how to use the full range of your voice with exercises and text. Breath, sound, placement, and pitch will be explored in this class. Both sections must be taken in order advance to the Vocal Lab or Speech for the Actor.​​​

Character Development
Using techniques such as animal work, observation, movement, voice, and a few advanced acting exercises, students will explore creating a character from a non-fictional, non-living person and bringing them to life. Students will present their character in a 15-minute private moment on the final night. This is a great class to stretch yourself as an actor.
This is included in the Acting 2 bundle.

Learning I.P.A.
Students will learn the foundation of the International Phonetic Alphabet (I.P.A.) and apply it to understand the basics of producing the sounds needed for the various dialects including British, Cockney, and Irish.
This can be part of the Acting 2 bundle.

Advanced Acting Technique 2:
Scene Study
For the actor who wants to develop their acting skills working with other actors, this class focuses on two-person scene work. You must have completed Acting Technique I, II, and III or have comparable experience to register for this class.

Acting: Sense Memory
This Signature Class focuses on utilizing your senses to connect to objects, people, and text better. Untap the technique needed to bring truth to your character's emotional life and environment. A must class for any serious actor.
​
Character Development
Using techniques such as animal work, observation, movement and voice, students will explore creating a character using fictional or non-fictional people and bringing them to life.
​
Devised Theatre
Students will collaborate to develop a short play based on a given prompt. We will explore genre, character, style, and play structure. The session will end with an informal performance of the devised piece.
Improvisation
Learn how to live in the moment and act on the spot in this fun and exciting class. Students learn games, long and short forms of Improv, and improve their skills for listening and communication, all in a risk-free environment.

Acting with
Movement
Explore acting with the inclusion of movement. Students will learn to use their bodies to help tell the character's story using Feldenkreis, Alexander, and Laban techniques.
Shakespeare
Take the fear out of Shakespeare and discover the beauty and fun of this often misunderstood branch of acting. Students explore the language of Shakespeare and the literary styles he uses including iambic pentameter, anthesis, prose vs. verse, and more, while working on a monologue chosen just for you.
Script Analysis
Students will gain a deeper understanding of story structure, character traits and arcs, archetypes and how to identify them, scene arcs, act arcs, act breaks, subtext, and theme.
There will be professional audition sides in the final two classes, allowing students to put their new critical analysis skills to the test.
Those interested will also have the chance to perform the sides for critique and redirections.
Styles of Performance
Step up your acting game with this Signature Class. Students will work on short monologues while exploring four different styles of performance: Clowning, Realism, Farce, and Elizabethan.

This class will give you the tips and tools needed to get started in the exciting world of voice-over.
​
Topics covered in class include: how to breakdown a script, finding your voice, getting into the business, working in front of a mic, and 1-on-1 in-class coaching. Students work at her home studio for mic work.

On-Camera Tech
with Tony Pender
Actors learn how to audition and act for the camera, Students get practical, hands on experience. A must for anyone wanting to increase their skill in on-camera acting. Get ready to grow.
Scene Study
Conservatory
During the 6 weeks, students will be exposed to Signature classes and panels with a conservatory-like class schedule: culminating in a simple presentation for the public.​​​​​

How an Actor Prepares Panel
We talk to a local actor and learn about their journey and how they prepare for a roles, giving tips and advice along the way.

Delve into the mind of an actor and see how different every actor's approach to acting is.
Working with a Director Panel
We sit down with local directors and talk about what they look for in an actor's audition, how they approach their work, and share anecdotes and tips along the way. Past directors have included: David Henderson, Ira David Wood III, Amelia Lumpkin, Tony Pender, Sue Scarborough, and Maggie Cook.
